◇ image via WikipediaSonu Nigam
Sonu Nigam is a Alternative rock act. Their sound grew out of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Monali Thakur, Biddu Orchestra, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. Those roots explain a lot about how Sonu Nigam arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, Pritam, Alka Yagnik and Sukhwinder Singh, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Kunal Ganjawala, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal, Atif Aslam and Vijay Prakash, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 51 connections around Sonu Nigam, reaching back through Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and forward to Kunal Ganjawala.
