Television Personalities is a Psychedelic rock act. Their sound grew out of Crocodiles, The Modern Lovers, Minutemen, Mystery Jets and Sex Pistols. Those roots explain a lot about how Television Personalities arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Clean, Josef K, The Monochrome Set, Young Marble Giants and The Soft Boys, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Tindersticks, 107 Faunos, Pavement, Nirvana and MGMT, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 23 connections around Television Personalities, reaching back through Crocodiles and forward to Tindersticks.
