The Velvet Underground

Psychedelic rock
Psychedelic rockRapRock

The Velvet Underground is a Psychedelic rock and Rap act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of John Cage, Babatunde Olatunji, Bo Diddley, Charlie Watts and Verve Records. Those roots explain a lot about how The Velvet Underground arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as John Cale, The Stooges, The Beatles, Syd Barrett and Iggy Pop, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Stuart Braithwaite, Lenny Kravitz, U2, Sex Pistols and The Stooges, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 152 connections around The Velvet Underground, reaching back through John Cage and forward to Stuart Braithwaite. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
