The Abyssinians is a Reggae act. Their sound grew out of The Heptones, Lloyd Charmers, Tyrone Downie, Bongo Herman and Lloyd Parks. Those roots explain a lot about how The Abyssinians arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dennis Brown, U-Roy, Wailing Souls, The Mighty Diamonds and Jacob Miller, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Keith Hudson, Third World, Sugar Minott, Groundation and Midnite, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 44 connections around The Abyssinians, reaching back through The Heptones and forward to Keith Hudson.
