Peter Tosh is a Reggae and Ska act. Their sound grew out of Joe Higgs, Robert Shakespeare, Sly and Robbie, Shame and Scandal and Glen Adams. Those roots explain a lot about how Peter Tosh arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Bob Marley & The Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse, Wailing Souls and Jacob Miller, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Gwen Guthrie, Blackheart Man, Edson Gomes, Donald Kinsey and Keith Hudson, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 72 connections around Peter Tosh, reaching back through Joe Higgs and forward to Gwen Guthrie.
