◇ image via WikipediaThe Dictators
The Dictators is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of Allen Lanier, Blue Öyster Cult, Mott the Hoople and MC5. Those roots explain a lot about how The Dictators arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as New York Dolls, The Stooges, Dead Boys, Supersuckers and The Undertones, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Scott Weinrich, Andrew W.K., Off with Their Heads, Motor City Resurrection and Turbonegro, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 38 connections around The Dictators, reaching back through Allen Lanier and forward to Scott Weinrich.
