The Nextmen is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Tenor Saw, London Posse, Rodney P and Dynamite MC. Those roots explain a lot about how The Nextmen arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Lyrics Born, Blackalicious, Chali 2na, Styles of Beyond and Ozomatli, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Cutty Ranks, Dynamite MC, Ms. Dynamite, Kidz in the Hall and Sway, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 50 connections around The Nextmen, reaching back through Tenor Saw and forward to Cutty Ranks.
