AJR is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Scaled and Icy, mxmtoon, BoyWithUke, Rivers Cuomo and Ingrid Michaelson. Those roots explain a lot about how AJR arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as American Authors, half•alive, lovelytheband, Quinn XCII and Em Beihold, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes, Rivers Cuomo, Weezer and Quinn XCII, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 48 connections around AJR, reaching back through Scaled and Icy and forward to Fifth Harmony. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
