Althea & Donna is a Reggae act. Their sound grew out of Marcia Aitken, Jacob Miller, Trinity and Lloyd Parks. Those roots explain a lot about how Althea & Donna arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Wailing Souls, Junior Murvin, The Viceroys, The Frightnrs and Gregory Isaacs, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Estelle, Black Box Recorder and Portishead, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation.
