◇ image via WikipediaAnathema
Anathema is a Progressive rock and Rap act. Their sound grew out of Engineers, Ville Valo, My Dying Bride, Steven Wilson and Pink Floyd. Those roots explain a lot about how Anathema arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Weather Systems, My Dying Bride, Lunatic Soul, Soen and Paradise Lost, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Planetary Confinement, Jinjer, Tristania, Omnium Gatherum and My Dying Bride, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 39 connections around Anathema, reaching back through Engineers and forward to Planetary Confinement.
