Blackstreet

Blackstreet is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Marley Marl, Das EFX, Dr. Dre, Bill Withers and Chad Hugo. Those roots explain a lot about how Blackstreet arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dru Hill, Joe, Keith Sweat, Montell Jordan and Shai, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Ja Rule, Dr. Dre, Mýa, Mase and Janet Jackson, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 44 connections around Blackstreet, reaching back through Marley Marl and forward to Ja Rule. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
