Cancer is a Death metal act. Their sound grew out of AC/DC, Metallica, Obituary and Deicide. Those roots explain a lot about how Cancer arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Malevolent Creation, Sinister, Possessed, Morbid Angel and Unleashed, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Meshuggah, Breeding Death and Bloodbath, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 21 connections around Cancer, reaching back through AC/DC and forward to Cradle of Filth.
