Doo-Wops & Hooligans

Alternative rock
Alternative rockContemporary R&B

Doo-Wops & Hooligans is a Alternative rock and Contemporary R&B act. Their sound grew out of Jason Mraz, U2, Coldplay, Little Richard and Sugar Ray. Those roots explain a lot about how Doo-Wops & Hooligans arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into B.o.B, CeeLo Green, Lupe Fiasco, Maroon 5 and OneRepublic, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 23 connections around Doo-Wops & Hooligans, reaching back through Jason Mraz and forward to B.o.B. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Doo-Wops & Hooligans is the debut studio album by the American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars. It was released on October 4, 2010, by Atlantic and Elektra Records and was made available to listen before its official release on September 24, 2010. After the release of the EP It's Better If You Don't Understand, Mars's writing and production team, the Smeezingtons, began working on the album with Needlz, Supa Dups, and Jeff Bhasker as producers. The album title was chosen to reflect simplicity and appeal to both men and women.
