Israel Kamakawiwoʻole is a Folk and Reggae act. Their sound grew out of World Digital Song Sales. Those roots explain a lot about how Israel Kamakawiwoʻole arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jake Shimabukuro, The Lumineers, Blind Pilot, The Tallest Man on Earth and The Civil Wars, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Doo-Wops & Hooligans and Lauren Daigle, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 16 connections around Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, reaching back through World Digital Song Sales and forward to Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
