Michael Jackson is a Contemporary R&B and Disco act. Their catalogue also touches House, Pop and Rock. Their sound grew out of Diana Ross, Fred Astaire, Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr. and Solid State Survivor. Those roots explain a lot about how Michael Jackson arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Jacksons, The Jackson 5, Jermaine Jackson, Prince & The Revolution and Whitney Houston, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 540 connections around Michael Jackson, reaching back through Diana Ross and forward to Justin Bieber. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
