Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a Post-rock act. Their sound grew out of Soundtracks for the Blind, All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling, Marisa Anderson, Steve Albini and Tim Hecker. Those roots explain a lot about how Godspeed You! Black Emperor arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as A Silver Mt. Zion, Natural Snow Buildings, Do Make Say Think, Have a Nice Life and Mono, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bosse-de-Nage, Jambinai, Circa Survive, Nine Inch Nails and Deerhoof, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around Godspeed You! Black Emperor, reaching back through Soundtracks for the Blind and forward to Bosse-de-Nage.
