Xiu Xiu is a Synth-pop act. Their sound grew out of Krzysztof Penderecki, Sharon Van Etten, The Paper Chase, Devendra Banhart and Deerhoof. Those roots explain a lot about how Xiu Xiu arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Sprain, Natural Snow Buildings, Animal Collective, Jim O'Rourke and Throbbing Gristle, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Cold Cave, Los Campesinos!, Duster and Deerhoof, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 47 connections around Xiu Xiu, reaching back through Krzysztof Penderecki and forward to Cold Cave.
