◇ image via WikipediaMumford & Sons
Mumford & Sons is a Country and Folk act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of The Avett Brothers, Buddy Guy, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead and The Band. Those roots explain a lot about how Mumford & Sons arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Lumineers, Bear's Den, Passenger, Caamp and Lord Huron, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Haim, The Vaccines, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Vampire Weekend and Old Crow Medicine Show, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 68 connections around Mumford & Sons, reaching back through The Avett Brothers and forward to Haim.
