Josh Ritter

Country
CountryFolk

Josh Ritter is a Country and Folk act. Their sound grew out of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, John Prine and In the Dark. Those roots explain a lot about how Josh Ritter arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dawes, Jason Isbell, Justin Townes Earle, The Milk Carton Kids and Ray LaMontagne, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Glen Hansard, Hilary Hahn, Dire Straits, The Frames and Bonny Light Horseman, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 30 connections around Josh Ritter, reaching back through Johnny Cash and forward to Glen Hansard. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
