◇ image via WikipediaLou Reed
Lou Reed is a Psychedelic rock and Rap act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of Danny Gatton, Steve Hunter, Anthology of American Folk Music, Godley & Creme and Nils Lofgren. Those roots explain a lot about how Lou Reed arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as John Cale, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music, The Stooges and New York Dolls, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Strawberry Switchblade, Eels, Third Eye Blind, Heather Nova and Howard Tate, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 130 connections around Lou Reed, reaching back through Danny Gatton and forward to Strawberry Switchblade.
