Linda Lewis is a Funk and House act. Their catalogue also touches Ska. Their sound grew out of It's in His Kiss, Junior Marvin, Harry Nilsson, Billie Holiday and Smokey Robinson. Those roots explain a lot about how Linda Lewis arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tavares, Honey Cone, Freda Payne, Love Unlimited and Tyrone Davis, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Minnie Riperton, Common, Kanye West, Basement Jaxx and Mariah Carey, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 38 connections around Linda Lewis, reaching back through It's in His Kiss and forward to Minnie Riperton.
