◇ image via WikipediaMac DeMarco
Mac DeMarco is a Psychedelic rock act. Their sound grew out of Neil Young, Shuggie Otis, Black Sabbath, Christopher Cross and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Those roots explain a lot about how Mac DeMarco arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Current Joys, TV Girl, Eyedress, Good Morning and Yot Club, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Myd, Crowded House, Thundercat, Mac Miller and 54 Ultra, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 68 connections around Mac DeMarco, reaching back through Neil Young and forward to Myd.
