Moodymann is a Techno act. Their sound grew out of The Egyptian Lover, Carl Craig, Smiley, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Those roots explain a lot about how Moodymann arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ron Trent, Larry Heard, Kerri Chandler, Glenn Underground and Cassius, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Nicolas Jaar, Amp Fiddler, p-rallel, Peggy Gou and Motor City Drum Ensemble, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 31 connections around Moodymann, reaching back through The Egyptian Lover and forward to Nicolas Jaar.
