They run in the same orbit as Heavy D & The Boyz, Naughty By Nature, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, Lords of the Underground and Kris Kross, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Nas, OutKast and Puff Daddy, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation.
