◇ image via WikipediaNas
Nas is a Boom bap act. Their sound grew out of Scott Storch, Boi-1da, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, DJ Green Lantern and The Gap Band. Those roots explain a lot about how Nas arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mobb Deep, JAY-Z, Big L, Gang Starr and Big Punisher, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Action Bronson, Kevin Gates, Thank Me Later, Lioness: Hidden Treasures and Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 235 connections around Nas, reaching back through Scott Storch and forward to Action Bronson. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
