MC Hammer is a Gospel and Hip hop act. Their sound grew out of Mistah F.A.B., Jane Handcock, Heavy D & The Boyz, Rick James and Boyz II Men. Those roots explain a lot about how MC Hammer arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Kris Kross, Naughty By Nature, Heavy D & The Boyz, Coolio and Will Smith, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Lyrikal, SEAMO, Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Lopez and Flavor Flav, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 60 connections around MC Hammer, reaching back through Mistah F.A.B. and forward to Lyrikal.
