Swing Out Sister

Swing Out Sister is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of A Certain Ratio, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, John Barry and Stevie Wonder. Those roots explain a lot about how Swing Out Sister arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Basia, Lisa Stansfield, Mike & The Mechanics, Rick Astley and ABC, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Everything But the Girl, A Scarcity of Miracles and Magazine, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 41 connections around Swing Out Sister, reaching back through A Certain Ratio and forward to Everything But the Girl. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
