◇ image via WikipediaZZ Top
ZZ Top is a Alternative rock and Blues act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of The Zombies, The 13th Floor Elevators, The Blues Brothers, Frank Beard and Jimi Jamison. Those roots explain a lot about how ZZ Top arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ted Nugent, AC/DC, George Thorogood & The Destroyers and Foghat, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Normaal, Dimebag Darrell, Jon Oliva, Mike Mills and Molotov, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 82 connections around ZZ Top, reaching back through The Zombies and forward to Normaal. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
