The Innocence Mission

The Innocence Mission is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of GusGus, Henry Mancini, Red House Painters, Joni Mitchell and The Ocean Blue. Those roots explain a lot about how The Innocence Mission arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Laura Veirs, Jessica Pratt, The Weather Station, Camera Obscura and Helena Deland, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Ocean Blue, Sufjan Stevens and Lomelda, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 32 connections around The Innocence Mission, reaching back through GusGus and forward to The Ocean Blue. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
