Red House Painters is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of John Denver, AC/DC, Kiss, Low and Codeine. Those roots explain a lot about how Red House Painters arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mark Kozelek, Tram, Bluetile Lounge, Bedhead and Carissa's Wierd, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, The Innocence Mission, Low, Sun Kil Moon and Great Lake Swimmers, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 56 connections around Red House Painters, reaching back through John Denver and forward to Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Red House Painters were an American rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1988. Founded by singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Kozelek, along with drummer Anthony Koutsos, the band relocated to San Francisco, California where they were joined by bassist Jerry Vessel and guitarist Gorden Mack in 1989.
