The Legendary Pink Dots is a Synth-pop act. Their sound grew out of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, Can and Neu!. Those roots explain a lot about how The Legendary Pink Dots arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Psychic TV, Chrome, Throbbing Gristle, Muslimgauze and Holger Czukay, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Skinny Puppy, The Dresden Dolls, Michael Rose, Sly Dunbar and MGMT, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 14 connections around The Legendary Pink Dots, reaching back through Pink Floyd and forward to Skinny Puppy.
