Chrome is a Industrial and Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of King Crimson, The Stooges, Sex Pistols and Neu!. Those roots explain a lot about how Chrome arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Pop Group, This Heat, Public Image Ltd., Mars and Wire, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Unwound, Nine Inch Nails, MGMT, Pavement and Osees, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 21 connections around Chrome, reaching back through King Crimson and forward to Unwound. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Chrome is an American rock band founded in San Francisco in 1976 by musician Damon Edge and associated with the 1970s post-punk movement. The group's raw sound blended elements of punk, psychedelia, and early industrial music, incorporating science-fiction themes, tape experimentation, distorted acid rock guitar, and electronic noise. They have been cited as forerunners of industrial rock.
