Thorns is a Black metal act. Their sound grew out of Fenriz and Sigurd Wongraven. Those roots explain a lot about how Thorns arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mysticum, Satyricon, Mayhem, Emperor and Enslaved, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Blut Aus Nord, Ultima Thulée, Dødheimsgard and Satyricon, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 31 connections around Thorns, reaching back through Fenriz and forward to De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.
