◇ image via WikipediaEmperor
Emperor is a Black metal act. Their sound grew out of Bathory, Nemesis Divina, Mediolanum Capta Est, Legions of War and Originators of the Northern Darkness – A Tribute to Mayhem. Those roots explain a lot about how Emperor arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Darkthrone, Dissection, Immortal, Enslaved and Satyricon, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into At the Heart of Winter, Dimmu Borgir, Green Carnation, Der Weg einer Freiheit and Demonic Resurrection, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 71 connections around Emperor, reaching back through Bathory and forward to At the Heart of Winter.
