Alpha Blondy

Reggae
Reggae

Alpha Blondy is a Reggae act. Their sound grew out of Junior Marvin, Tyrone Downie, The Wailers Band, Dennis Bovell and Sharon Forrester. Those roots explain a lot about how Alpha Blondy arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tiken Jah Fakoly, Groundation, Steel Pulse, Max Romeo and Clinton Fearon, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Locomondo, Tyrone Downie, Jonathan Wilson, Admiral T and Barbara Kanam, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 41 connections around Alpha Blondy, reaching back through Junior Marvin and forward to Locomondo. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
