◇ image via WikipediaThe Wailers
The Wailers is a Reggae and Ska act. Their sound grew out of The Heptones, Leslie Kong, Funky Kingston, Clancy Eccles and Sinner Man. Those roots explain a lot about how The Wailers arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Bob Marley & The Wailers, Peter Tosh, Steel Pulse, Toots and the Maytals and Gregory Isaacs, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Junior Marvin, Third World, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, The Gladiators and Delroy Wilson, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 71 connections around The Wailers, reaching back through The Heptones and forward to Junior Marvin.
