Ancient is a Black metal act. Their sound grew out of Iron Maiden, Darkthrone, Belphegor, Grand Belial's Key and Emperor. Those roots explain a lot about how Ancient arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Gehenna, Old Man's Child, Siebenbürgen, Limbonic Art and Enthroned, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Illdisposed, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 25 connections around Ancient, reaching back through Iron Maiden and forward to Illdisposed. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
