◇ image via WikipediaBananarama
Bananarama is a Dance-pop act. Their sound grew out of Shocking Blue, Dennis Bovell, The Supremes, The Doobie Brothers and Andrea True Connection. Those roots explain a lot about how Bananarama arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Kim Wilde, Belinda Carlisle, Jason Donovan, Sonia and Exposé, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Eurythmics, Steps, Big Brovaz, Shakespears Sister and Tracey Ullman, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 54 connections around Bananarama, reaching back through Shocking Blue and forward to Eurythmics.
