Borknagar is a Black metal act. Their sound grew out of Arcturus, Black Shining Leather, Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods, Eirik Hundvin and Gorgoroth. Those roots explain a lot about how Borknagar arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Vintersorg, Enslaved, Dimmu Borgir, Saor and Dark Funeral, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Emperor, In Flames, Morbid Angel, Cradle of Filth and Malevolent Creation, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 32 connections around Borknagar, reaching back through Arcturus and forward to Emperor. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
