Soulfly is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Machine Head, Deftones, Fear Factory, Limp Bizkit and Dub War. Those roots explain a lot about how Soulfly arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Cavalera Conspiracy, Coal Chamber, Chimaira, Machine Head and Killer Be Killed, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Cavalera Conspiracy, Bloodsimple, Primer 55, No One and Skindred, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 80 connections around Soulfly, reaching back through Machine Head and forward to Cavalera Conspiracy. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
