Carl Douglas is a Rhythm and blues act. Their sound grew out of Biddu Orchestra, Eric Woolfson, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. Those roots explain a lot about how Carl Douglas arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Redbone, Wild Cherry, Gloria Gaynor, The Hues Corporation and Anita Ward, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Ego, Rakim, KRS-One, CeeLo Green and Jack Black, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 42 connections around Carl Douglas, reaching back through Biddu Orchestra and forward to Ego. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
