Butthole Surfers

Psychedelic rock
Psychedelic rockRap

Butthole Surfers is a Psychedelic rock and Rap act. Their sound grew out of The Dicks, Chrome, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Roky Erickson and Melvins. Those roots explain a lot about how Butthole Surfers arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mudhoney, Dinosaur Jr., Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, Beck and Bloodhound Gang, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sublime with Rome, Victims Family, Plastilina Mosh, Sonic Youth and Treepeople, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around Butthole Surfers, reaching back through The Dicks and forward to Sublime with Rome. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
