Dave Grohl is a Heavy metal and Rap act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of Mike Watt, Buzz Osborne, The Gap Band, The Bird and the Bee and Le Noise. Those roots explain a lot about how Dave Grohl arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Eagles of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, Corey Taylor and Velvet Revolver, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Shiena Nishizawa, Eric Wagner, Zac Brown Band, The Chats and Alberta Cross, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 73 connections around Dave Grohl, reaching back through Mike Watt and forward to Shiena Nishizawa.
