◇ image via WikipediaGary Numan
Gary Numan is a Electronic and Synth-pop act. Their sound grew out of Robin Gibb, Die Mensch-Maschine, Electronica 2: The Heart of Noise, Chris Liebing and Shakatak. Those roots explain a lot about how Gary Numan arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tubeway Army, Ultravox, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Depeche Mode and Adam and the Ants, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Republica, Think Tank, The Day Before You Came, The Lexicon of Love and Dubstar, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 64 connections around Gary Numan, reaching back through Robin Gibb and forward to Republica.
