Digital Underground is a Funk and Hip hop act. Their sound grew out of Lafayette Afro Rock Band, Road Crew, Mystic, Parliament-Funkadelic and N.W.A. Those roots explain a lot about how Digital Underground arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Heavy D & The Boyz, Naughty By Nature, EPMD, Biz Markie and Chubb Rock, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Luniz, Sly Boogy, Big Pun and Biz Markie, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 47 connections around Digital Underground, reaching back through Lafayette Afro Rock Band and forward to Del Tha Funkee Homosapien.
