◇ image via WikipediaN.W.A
N.W.A is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Priority Records, Ruthless Records, Clyde Stubblefield, Funky Drummer and World Class Wreckin' Cru. Those roots explain a lot about how N.W.A arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, The D.O.C. and MC Ren, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into J.J. Fad, London Posse, The Slim Shady LP, Axl Rose and Chamillionaire, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 86 connections around N.W.A, reaching back through Priority Records and forward to J.J. Fad.
