Liars is a Post-rock act. Their sound grew out of HTRK, Yuri Landman, Gang of Four, The Cure and PJ Harvey. Those roots explain a lot about how Liars arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Clinic, Les Savy Fav, The Fiery Furnaces, This Heat and Mission of Burma, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Deerhunter, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 29 connections around Liars, reaching back through HTRK and forward to Deerhunter. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
