Mantronix is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash, Kraftwerk and Neu!. Those roots explain a lot about how Mantronix arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Just-Ice, Schoolly D, Boogie Down Productions, Roxanne Shanté and Ultramagnetic MC's, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Beastie Boys, Funkadelic, Sander Kleinenberg, Hithouse and Ninja Tune, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 38 connections around Mantronix, reaching back through Ryuichi Sakamoto and forward to Beastie Boys.
