Talk Talk is a Post-rock and Rap act. Their catalogue also touches Synth-pop. Their sound grew out of Verve Records, Tago Mago, Roxy Music, David Bowie and Slint. Those roots explain a lot about how Talk Talk arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mark Hollis, Bark Psychosis, Ultravox, Roxy Music and ABC, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bell X1, Weezer, The Divine Comedy, The Gathering and Ray LaMontagne, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 76 connections around Talk Talk, reaching back through Verve Records and forward to Bell X1. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
