UNKLE is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Karmacoma, Orishas, The Golden Filter, Keaton Henson and Badly Drawn Boy. Those roots explain a lot about how UNKLE arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Massive Attack, Tricky, Sneaker Pimps, HÆLOS and Portishead, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Supercell, The Crystal Method, Autolux, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Atoms for Peace, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 38 connections around UNKLE, reaching back through Karmacoma and forward to Supercell. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
